Neil Sedaka & Howrds Greenfield

Brooklyn-born classically-trained pianist and remarkably successful pop singer and songwriter

Neil Sedaka began having hit records in the late 50's and is still performing and composing today.

His popularity extends overseas including England where his one-man concerts at

London's Royal Albert Hall are regular sell-outs.

His initial songwriting partner was the lyricist Howard Greenfield and they signed with

Al Nevins & Don Kirshner's brand new publishing company Aldon Music, located at 1650 Broadway

two blocks from New York's legendary Brill Building. Don took Neil & Howie to meet Connie Francis

and as a result, she recorded what became their very first hit, the uptempo novelty STUPID CUPID in 1958.

Among Neil's many achievements was clocking up two major hits with the same song namely

BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO; his first version topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of '62 and then,

with a slower, bluesy arrangement, he returned the song to the chart thirteen years later in '75!

He enjoyed two different phases of hit records; the first one beginning when he was signed to RCA in '58.

Then in 1972, Neil recorded at the Strawberry Studios in Stockport, England, with musicians

Graham Gouldman, Eric Stewart, Kevin Godley and Lol Creme who comprised the band 10CC;

tracks from the resulting UK albums were successfully released here by Elton John on his Rocket

label and Neil's 1975 #1 single LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN opened him up to a whole new audience.

Elton sang backup on Neil's third #1 smash BAD BLOOD also in '75

and again on STEPPIN' OUT the following year.

Another Neil Sedaka single on Rocket was THE IMMIGRANT which was dedicated to John Lennon.

A further Sedaka milestone was his 1980 Top 20 hit SHOULD'VE NEVER LET YOU GO

on which he duetted with his daughter Dara.

So here is THE NEIL SEDAKA JUKEBOX
